Press release -Sustainability not only for buildings but also for facility services –
New research project CarMa from HWR and HTW Berlin (supported by EuroFM)
From April 2018, the Institute for Applied Research (IFAF) Berlin will be funding the cooperative research project "CarMa – Carbon Management for Facility Services" of the two universities of applied sciences HWR Berlin and HTW Berlin, Germany for two years. The objective of the IFAF Berlin is to promote science and applied research by supporting the cooperation of Berlin universities of applied sciences participating in IFAF.
Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Andrea Pelzeter (HWR) and Prof. Dr. habil. Michael May (HTW), together with the cooperation partners Apleona HSG BS GmbH Berlin, BIM – Berliner Immobilien Management, GEFMA – German Association for Facility Management Bonn, iffm GmbH Berlin and intep – Integrale Planung GmbH Berlin will develop a carbon management method and an associated technology to capture, monitor and benchmark CO2 emissions generated by Facility Services. With the help of CarMa, FM service providers will be able to identify which activities in their value chain contribute to CO2 emissions. In addition, they can compare themselves to their competitors. In addition, the CarMa IT tool to be developed should also provide recommendations and information on the reduction of emissions. The associated software will be developed as a web service and be made publicly available as part of a business model.
Additionally, the new method will be published as GEFMA Guideline, which will ensure rapid dissemination and exploitation of the project's results. CarMa is a contribution to greater transparency in the competition for "ecological" facility services.
At the most important FM exhibition and conference INservFM, 27 February - 1 March 2018 in Frankfurt, Prof. Pelzeter and Prof. May presented the CarMa project to the professional audience for the first time.
